Hi all,

I've had a few of you request the ability to get different looks that the Privateer currently doesn't do ( at least, not easily ). Most of these have one thing in common: posts shown next to each other, with columns and rows rather than just a single column.

I've also have a few people ask about plugins, and realized that currently one has to edit quite a few files to add support for plugins which require altering php to use.

Looking things over, I'm going to push off the css revisions for one more version ( unless anyone _really_ wants them in yesterday... ) and add the following functionality for 1.6:

Plugin Integration
I'll be adding support for at least two plugins to the code base via quick tags:
  • Featured Content Gallery
  • One other I forget the name of, but I'll update this tomorrow.
If you have plugins that require editing php files which you like to use, get me the information on them and I'll add quicktag support into the theme for them.

This will also mean that to add most plugins to the privateer, you will only need to edit a single file to do so rather than editing each template and/or custom display that you want to use it with.

Post Display Selections
Right now, without custom displays, posts are shown in a single column.

I was initially going to make custom displays for different types of looks, but realized that I could simply add some post display methods to the Post Display sub-menu of the various multi-post pages ( home, search, the 4 archives ).

When I'm done, you will be able to:
  • Specify the number of columns to display posts in, each column having an equal width
  • Choose a display type for the posts displayed ( normal, title and content next to the thumbnail, title above thumbnail, content below it, title and content below the thumbnail, or show only the thumbnail )
  • Mix up to two content boxes into the post listing, either showing them before or after a specified post number or showing them taking up half of the available content area for a specified post.

This should give the ability to get a lot more looks with the theme, especially when you take into account the post kickers, subtitles, summaries, bylines, and footers.

A third sidebar
I'm looking into adding a third sidebar that can be placed in different areas...but not positive on whether or not this piece will make it into 1.6.

A new custom display set
I'm also working on a new custom display set that will let you choose to show posts from specified categories, how many to show for each category, and whether or not you want each selected category lists in half of the available space or the full available space.

When I expect to have it done
At this point, I'm thinking that I should have the above wrapped up within a week and a half to two weeks. The plugin integration piece is finished and I'll be starting in on the post display alterations tomorrow.

A re-written featured content gallery plugin
I'll also be providing a re-written featured content gallery plugin with version 1.6. I re-wrote it as a php class, added error handling and warning displays, added the ability to show items by tag, by author, or just completely at random, and added option settings so that you can use the plugin in more than one place with different options in each place...and I'll show how to set it up so that you can have it automatically feature posts related to whatever category, tag, or author archive someone is looking at.

Anywise, off to catch some sleep here.

PLEASE: If you have particular looks and/or plugins that you would like to see just let me know and I'll either show you how to get them / set them up or add an functionality required if possible.
