Greetings,

The Help and Support forum is here for people to get answers to questions related to the privateer theme for wordpress.

Before posting here, please search this forum to see if your question has already been answered. I am just one guy who enjoys programming...and the more time I spend answering questions which have already been answered, the less time I have to add features to the privateer theme and help those who have unanswered questions.

Types of posts which belong here are:
  • Questions about how to do something with the privateer theme
  • Notes of problems experienced in as much detail as possible
  • Anything else perceived as a problem being experienced with the theme

Consideration is appreciated.

I am just one guy and I have a lot of things going on in my life. Because of this, it might take a day or two to get back to you.

If you can take the time to describe, as best you can, what is going on and when something happens as well as the version of wordpress you are using, I can likely provide an answer that will help you in my first reply. Please help me help you!

And, of course, a brief notice of thanks or a small donation is always appreciated!

Be well,
~Tony

Thankyou for the update to version 1.4!

More thank welcome!

the selector button is still showing all selections as "No settings."
Yes, that is as designed. The reason for it is that you are simply applying a set of styles to the theme...which you can then modify as you see fit. Once changes are made you wouldn't really be using that quickset anymore.

I see what you are saying though. I'll update the informational section on that piece to make it clearer.

There were quite a few other things apparently not working before I played around with deactivating and reactivating the plugin (for example, changing the header subtitle colour) but I will try again (after I watch the tutorial videos more thoroughly and) now that the Quick Setup is now inexplicably working - maybe some of the other stuff is now working as well (I hope.) Changing the title colour also did not work initially but then after several page refreshes it started to work (before I played with the plugin) - I don't understand why!
Please let me know when you find such! It is strange that things are working now and were not at first...normally that kind of thing only occurs if the browser is caching the css files and not updating them when the file changes.

Now that it is working I noticed that some of the configuration changes I had made don't seem to work if I change to a new Quick Setup. It appears that Quick Setup needs to be selected first before changing any of the details. Is that correct? So fluid setup and page widths etc need to be selected for each Quick Set after it is selected?
Yes. The best way to go is to select a quickset that has most of what you are looking for and then make changes from there. Applying a quickset will override style related settings.

I'm thinking that I will add one more type of quickset ( currently there is only everything and styles ) to take into account positioning...so that I can split positioning related information out from style information.

A bit of feedback:

The changes you are planning for version 1.5 sound great!
Thanks. I'm working on them now, but not quite sure yet when they will be done. 1.5 will mostly involve reworking the menu systems and css settings.

I am finding not being able to modify the CSS directly very challenging. There are many modifications I need to make to the layout and the appearance but have not been able to do so far -
(the stylesheet.css is virtually empty)  changing the spacing, adding borders and background colours etc (I was unsuccessful with version 1.3 as I mentioned to you before.)
For some things you can edit the core_css.php file, but most settings are stored in the database...hence the reason I'm going to add the ability to have the system write out a static file in the next version.

The majority of styling can be done in the general display menu, the html-entities - sidebars and widget menus, and the Default Page - Page Styling / Nav Styling / Post Styling menus. I'll be more than happy to help out if you run into specific troubles.

One thing I would really like to do in the admin is to be able to type or copy-and-paste in a colour name or number instead of using the colour-picker so that I can easily use the same colours for different elements. (I tried to do this with the colour-picker but it just reverts to the default.)
Anywhere that the color picker is available, you can type in the color number ( XXXXXX ) and click elsewhere to get the color you want. If that isn't working for you, please let me know...but I haven't run into any problems with doing so as of yet.

I use the fluid symmetrical 3-column (left and right sidebars) layout but there is only grey available in the present selections of Quick Setups. The blue and green available in some of the other Quick Sets would be great! (I know that the sidebar layouts are apparently changeable but I like the borders on the page and sidebars etc of "Shades of Grey" that most of the other Quick Sets don't have.)
To get the borders in for other quicksets, you can add a border-left or border-right css entry into the HTML Entities - Sidebars - Sidebar X Style option. Let me know if you could use a hand getting things just right and I'll be happy to help.

Thanks for your detailed reply Tony!

Unfortunately I didn't see your reply and due to some confusion as to where was the correct place to post I have just started a new post with the same message and erased this one one have already replied to. (I thought I had posted in the wrong place.) But as you have quoted my questions with your answers may be it doesn't matter.

Maybe it is better if I delete the new copied post if I can.

And thanks again for the repeated offer to help Tony!
I will do what I can myself first but it is great to know your offer is there.

Wayne.

Thanks much.

Here is a very basic overview of how I setup sites with the theme:

Setting up a WordPress site with the Privateer Theme

I'll be posting a more detailed version in the same thread here in a few hours.
