1.7
« on: June 25, 2010, 08:27:59 AM »

Have uploaded and installed 1.7 on two sites.
Two comments so far.
under appearance the preview pic does not show in eaither install.
Second, after activating the theme, under the default theme the logo gif did not display properly, but after I deleted it and uploaded it again, it does show.
But on the hearts quickset, I can't get rid of the red x where the logo goes, and correcting it the way I did on the other install doesn't work.
Both sites are WP3.0 installs.

Hi Kim,

Looking into this now. Normally, both of these happen when the theme isn't installed in the proper location ( e.g. the downloaded zip archive ( privateer_1_7.zip ) is directly uploaded via wordpress. Things kind of work...but fail due to broken paths from the themes directory.

I'll post back momentarily once I've looked things over. If you have a url ( you can email / pm if you want ), I could take a look and be able to tell you more readily what is going on.

One other possibility is that you have wordpress installed in an odd location. I thought that I fixed everything so that you can have it installed wherever you want...but I could have missed something.

The most likely problem is that

1) The background for the hearts quickset is not in the /privateer/images/header area ( you have to do that manually )

With this version, I removed the default header image because many people are using the theme on live sites...and keeping it in there would cause their sites to randomly use whatever banner I placed there if they are using the image bar.

I guess I could be sneaky and put a default banner that is an ad for the theme in there...but that just wouldn't be right =)

So...copy the banner from the /privateer/images/qs/hearts/ directory to /privateer/images/headers/ and things should work.

Hi Kim,

Ok. The kblackbox.png file you have is corrupted for some reason. I've attached a new copy. Upload that to /privateer/images and that should be fixed.

It sounds like the preview image got corrupted during transfer as well. I've attached that (screenshot.png) as well. Upload it to /privateer/ and it should fix the preview image.

Personally...I'd re-download the theme as it sounds like there was some kind of corruption during transfer. I grabbed a copy to check it and all of the files seem fine.

If that doesn't do the trick, please let me know!

Hi Kim,

The http://memawscorner.com/ site's source says that the page is looking for kblackbox.png.

If you are using a different image, then please make sure that you have that image in the /privateer/images directory and that the Privateer - General Display - Header Settings - Logo Image option has that image name set.

The page source shows:
Quote
<img class="imagebar-logo" src="http://memawscorner.com/wp-content/themes/privateer/images/kblackbox.png" alt="Memaw&#039;s Corner" /></a>

When I paste that image into my browser window, I get a note that it contains errors and cannot be displayed.
Quote
The image “http://memawscorner.com/wp-content/themes/privateer/images/kblackbox.png” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

If you named your new logo kblackbox.png and put it up, I would try saving the image again, uploading it with a different name, and changing the logo to the name of that image.

My browser states that the image contains errors and cannot be displayed...so saving out a new copy might do the trick. If not, please send me a copy of the image you are using for the logo and I can see if there is really a problem with it and, if so, possibly get you a fixed copy of it.

Also, the site footer isn't showing up either as it claims that it contains errors as well.

I've downloaded a copy from e-junkie and opened the images in a few different editors ( and web browsers ) without problems...so something strange is going on.

Hi Kim,

Strange. I'm not seeing that error on your site currently. I'm looking into it now though.

When getting that kind of error, it means something is calling jQuery and not finding it. I'm trying to track down what that would be at the moment.

As a quick temporary fix...

Go to the Privateer - General Display - HTML and CSS inserts panel.

There, add the following line into the HTML Inserts: Header option:
<script type='text/javascript' src='/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js'></script>

( note that you might have to change the src='/wp-includes...' piece if you have wordpress installed somewhere other than the root of your server )

That should cause the theme to load the jquery library. If not, please let me know and I'll see what is going on.

Once i track down what is going on I'll post back here.

Tony,
these are both new sites, I can easily delete them and start over with a clean install of WP3 (both sites are upgrade from 2.9.2) and clean install of 1.7 (both sites are ugraded installs of 1.6)
Would you suggest this maybe? I may not be finding a bug in 1.7 like I thought but just having a user problem that I can't locate.

I might have it. I forgot about one javascript call, thinking that jquery was only used for something that was removed. I'm checking things now and will post up the fixed files shortly ( and update the download files as well...but it should only be 1-2 files ).

There we go. I had been experimenting with wp_enqueue_script, but forgotten one of the php js files...

The fix involves 4 files:
  • jquery-1.2.6.min.js ( place in /privateer/js )
  • header.php ( place in /privateer/ )
  • serve_js.php ( place in /privateer/ )
  • core_js.php ( place in /privateer/ )

It _looks_ like everything in fine now. I didn't notice this as I had a plugin active that loaded jquery...

I'll post this as a bug for 1.7 and get the files updated here momentarily.

Thanks Tony!
