Hi Tony
This is really just a general question.
After I have layed out The Privateer theme (or any theme for that matter) the way I want it, how do I copy it so that I can use the same lay out in another of my sites?

Or do I have to load the theme in its basic format and alter it to my liking all the time?

Sorry about the delayed response! I got a bit bogged down getting 1.7 taken care of.

Once you have a look you like with the privateer, you can save the look and use it on other sites by exporting a style set / quick set.

To do so, go to the Privateer - Quick Display - Export Style menu.

There, enter some basic information ( and hopefully a screenshot and thumbnail image ) and select export. If you just want the look ( and not all of the extra settings ), be sure to have it set to styles only.

Once exported, you will see the look listed in your custom displays panel.

You can then either download the look and upload it to another site and apply it via the Privateer - Quick Display - Change Style menu or copy the styleset and its associated thumbnails from the /privateer/stylesets directory and copy them up to another server for use.

If you create a look using custom images, be sure to copy the images up using the same directory structure ( or, if the structure is different, open the styleset file and do a search and replace for the first part of the image path on your original server and replace it with the matching portion on your new server and save the changes.

For example, if you created a look on a server where wordpress was installed under the /blog directory, but are uploading it to a server where it is at the site root...you would want to open the style set file in a text editor and replace all instances of /blog/ with /

Hopefully that makes some sense. If not, just let me know what you aren't sure of and I'll be happy to answer.

Very welcome.

The "Styles only" piece can make some styles difficult to copy, especially when they depend upon content...but the All options setting grabs everything and makes copying looks very simple...provided that the non-styling option data is ok to copy as well.
